For days of auld lang syne
I think I've selfishly wished another baby into being a few times this year. Deliberately at times, passively, maybe out of habit, others. I've felt the hurt of the knowing that my body is tired and a bit broken. "No" is a hard answer to hear when you're folded down on your knees. But I know too that I've learned to hold on, with both hands, to the sweet truth that these boys are mine. I pull them close and I am blessed. So very blessed.
I've wondered often, about this little space here, that we're creating. What place does it have in our fleeting lives, what purpose will it serve, what good might it do? It seems we have a story to tell, these boys and I, and you and I together, it seems this is the place that it will be written, shared and kept... for now.
It seems right. It seems good.
A few, and by a few I mean a whole heck of a lot because narrowing down is no skill of mine... a few of my favorite moments, in images, of this year past:
And there's a hand my trusty friend
And give a hand o' thine
And we'll take a right good will draught
For auld lang syne
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne
Be well.
live sweet,
n
I hope you'll understand that I'm taking a break from An Aloha Affair this week. The boys and I are still adjusting to life back at home and are fighting off winter colds. But really I wanted to write just a bit more here, over the next few days, to connect with you in meaningful ways that aren't about numbers in any way. Thank you for being wonderful you. Thank you too for sharing your story with me here.

What wonderful pictures of a precious family. 2012 has also had me on my knes with challenges but here's to 2013 being a time of happiness.

My eyes are brimming. Thanks for sharing your sunshine Nicole. On this dreary Northestern day, it is deeply appreciated. Deeply, deeply. <3
ReplyDeleteI always love reading your words. They’re like a balm to me. Remind me to take the time to enjoy when everything inside my nature says “Speed up, do more, be productive.” You bring me back to calm.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your days off and get well!

Your posts always make me feel like I'm listening to a good friend talk. You have such a warm and inviting and truly comforting way of not only expressing yourself through words, but describing it in such a way that you can visualize it. I've enjoyed knowing you this year and though I know I haven't been the best of bloggy friends, I truly deeply value knowing you through the bloggy world and look forward to all that 2013 has in store. I think this year will be even more blessed than any years past and I hope that you, your hubby, Ty and Sean all have a wonderful 2013. Thank you for being such a warm and inspiring presence in this world and on the web and in my life. I loved this post, just seeing how your boys have grown since I first met you on the web in early 2012 is so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAloha to you and yours my dear and I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Know what you mean about wanting a baby, but your body being tired. We had to stop at 2, and sometimes I yearn for another. There is always adoption, which we pray about often. Not sure if God will lead in that or not.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we have the assurance that no matter what happens in any of our lives in 2013, God is holding our hands and will never leave us! Blessings! ~Leah@embracingrace.com
Happy New Year Nic! Hope you guys beat those colds! And I am absolutely in love with all of these photos!
