listen here buddy...

posted on: 5.17.2012

Oh, I have been awfully poopy lately when it comes to exercise and  laundry, (how does that pile never really end, really?) and dirty dishes and... oh, "one thing at a time" Charlie says when I get like this.  That Charlie he just might be on to something there.  And so to be helpful he continued "hmmm... how's about we pay ourselves seven dollars, to spend on anything we want, for each day we meet our goals of eating healthy and exercising".

Really, 'cause I was thinking we should tackle the laundry thing first but oh, Charlie, he's so much more wise than I and is so much better about priorities and if he says it's exercise that will change things around here, well exercise it must be.

You have to know this about our dear ol' Charlie, he is as fit as a well-tuned fiddle.  We could throw him in a tub of chocolate cake and he would swim right through the layers of icing, climb on out the other side and make himself a healthy concoction of stir fried veggies and tofu. And if the boys and I settle in for a Sunday afternoon nap well, that Charlie will sneak off in his one man outrigger canoe and paddle like twelve miles, or so, while we sleep and then come home to see if any one's up for a hike, or a swim, or a walk, or a...
Oh, sometimes I dislike dear ol' Charlie very much.

And so, when he first said "seven dollars" well I was a bit offended. Do I look like a girl who needs to be paid seven dollars in order to make myself a priority or get up off the couch or put on my running shoes...

So, I of course said,
"listen here buddy... make it ten and you've got a deal".

This, right here, is our starting line.

See, it's written in chalk on the street right outside of our little beach shack and it's our very own, for our very own little  race to better versions of ourselves, to healthful living, to happiness, to making it count, to...

You can make a starting line too wherever you are, whatever you are preparing to tackle and we can run to the finish line together, you and me and dear ol' Charlie.

Ready... Set... Go...

    1. Oh Michelle, you could "chalk it" on your heart if you wanted or you could "lipstick it" on your bathroom mirror, or... Well, unless, you would just be adding "clean that lipstick off the bathroom mirror" to your to do list. =)

  7. I need to PAINT a start line at my front door. I always let things like laundry get in the way of "me". Just hopping in to let you know that Freedom Fridays is up and running and I would love for you to link up again this week:)

  8. I just saw a pair of socks at Wal-mart that had "no nonsense" on the toes. Maybe I can get a magic marker and write starting line on my own gym socks.

  15. I needed this post more than I can tell you. I have been at that starting line for awhile now but afraid to cross it. I don't feel like myself these days after having a baby and my dear ol' Matt says don't worry babe you just had a baby and you'll get there. Well it's been 7 months and I feel more defeated. So today at our new house I am going to write my starting line and I am going to take that leap of faith and get out there and be a better me! Thanks for the inspiration!! :)

  16. Oh Shantel, you have to know that when you move we'll all be moving with ya, and when you take those first, sometimes tricky steps, well, we're all right there knowing just what it feels like to line up at the starting line. Nudge yourself across it and we'll run to the finish line together. REady... Set... Go...

P.S. Tell that dear ol' Matt of yours he's so right you will get there, you already are there in so many wonderful ways.

    xoxo,
    N
